For a one-person, home-based consulting business the operating plan will be short and simple, but for a business such as a restaurant or a manufacturer that requires custom facilities, supply chains, specialized equipment, and multiple employeesthe operating plan needs to be very detailed.
Explain the kinds of products or services your business will offer, how you plan to manufacture the product or administer the service and what materials you will need.
They often have relationships with retailers and distributors and work to sell your products into the appropriate channel. Describe your production workflow. Lenders and other financiers need an updated plan to help them make financing decisions. Maybe you did a poor job last time; maybe things have just changed faster than you expected.
But business plans are not all the same any more than all businesses are.
